Do-It-Yourself Can Lead to Catastrophic Consequences

In this day and age, there are plenty of Do-It-Yourself (DIY) options out there for most thing you need. Cooking, learning guitar or a new language, and even fixing a car.

Why can’t I do the same thing with my will? It’s way cheaper, and I know what is going into the will because I’m the one who drafted it!

Sure, but there are some things to consider.

First, your will affects everything you own. It’s not like messing up a car engine and needing to go in to the repair shop. Or messing up your guitar and buying a new one.

If you mess up your will, literally everything you own will be negatively affected. You want to make sure it’s done correctly the first time.

Second, there are no do-overs. Once you pass away, there’s very little anyone can do to fix the mistakes you made that you didn’t know you made when you drafted your own will.

Third, the amount of time you will take to make sure your will is done properly might cost more than the cost of an attorney doing it for you.

If time is money, and you took 20+ hours to draft a will correctly, you may be losing more money from lost time than you would if you outsourced the project to an attorney for 2 hours of your time.

Last, life is always changing, and a solid will now could be useless later.

For example, if your sole beneficiary died last year, and you don’t have a back up for them, then your will could be useless. That’s why my firm offers free annual reviews and free edits by an attorney to make sure everything is up to date.

An estate plan through a professional, like Legion Law, addresses all these concerns. Our estate plans are cost-effective, comprehensive, and will stand the tests of time.

It wouldn’t be the Legion Law Letter without offering information on how to get in touch with your estate planning and probate attorney. Feel free to schedule a meeting at for any questions, concerns, or issues you need resolved.
